Annual Picnic on Saturday, May 11: Mother’s Day Celebration

May 8th, 2013 · Event announcement

Kick off Mother’s Day Weekend this year with family, friends and neighbors in a special way. It’s a perfect opportunity for Dads, Partners, and Kids to celebrate all the wonderous things Moms contribute to our lives by joining ECNA on Saturday, May 11 (the day BEFORE Mother’s Day) at our Annual Picnic, this year tied to celebrating MOMS!

Think about planning a special picnic dinner (not a potluck this year) for the family, but don’t let Mom do the work. Let the rest of the family put together a picnic plan, prepare the basket, pull Mom away from her Saturday “to do list” or drag her away from the garden, point her toward the shower, pack the car with the goodies and backyard games, escort her to the car, and whisk her away to a fun picnic dinner with all of us at Embudo Hills Park.

We plan to start playing multi-generaltional games like badminton, croquet, blongo, Bocce, and other backyard games at 4 pm. Spread your picnic some time after that. Bring your own beverages, but please remember–NO ALCOHOL. ECNA is providing tableware, bottled water, napkins and a special Mother’s Day DESSERT, which will be available about 5:30 pm. Officers and active member are bringing the games that they have but if your family has games like rubber horseshoes, ring toss, corn hole, etc. please bring them with you, too.

Let’s all hope we have optimal May weather. We hope this year picnic will attract more family, provide fun ways to meet and interact with family and neighbors.

April 14th, 2013 · Police update

Dear Foothills Area Command Neighborhood Leaders, Neighborhood Watch Groups and Apartment Community Partners,

I’d like to inform you that we have new leadership at the Foothills Area Command. Every year our sworn officers and supervisors bid in March to determine where they will work for the next year. Please welcome Lieutenant John M. Whisonant (call him Mike) to the Day Watch and Lieutenant Mark Swanson to the Swing Shift Watch. Former Day Watch Lieutenant Louie Sanchez is staying here with the Foothills team, but is moving to the Graveyard Watch. The Lieutenants are in place and have their offices set up here at the Foothills Substation. Our Sergeants are also in place now. The officers in the field will be starting their assignments effective Saturday, April 20; and we have some officers who may be new to the Foothills Area Command and some who have returned to the Foothills. Perhaps you will recognize officers you may have worked with in the past. We have a great team of professionals assembled to serve our community! [Read more →]

The April 27th Great American ECNA Clean-up Site HAS BEEN CHANGED!

April 2nd, 2013 · Uncategorized

In response to a thoughtful email I received from one of you, pointing out that trash on Tramway was recently addressed by the State Highway Department and concerns for our safety, the ECNA board has responded by moving our targeted clean-up location of the city-wide April 27th event. Since, as an organization we have already “adopted” Embudo Hills Park and have neighbors that devote many volunteer hours to help maintain the park in great condition, we all thought it made sense to put some energy into trash pick-up in the open-space adjacent to the parks southern border and where Lomas approaches the park, East side of Lomas. There is plenty of parking so we will still meet at 9am. Trash will be collected by the city just south of the park, the east side of Lomas, about where Conner Ct. intersects Lomas. There will less trash in this area than Tramway, so our good efforts should conclude in much less time. Also, the area is safer for children.

We have requested trash sacks and gloves from the city, but just in case they run out before we get our requested allotment, bring gloves if you have them and a few large trash bags if you have any you can spare. Also bring: sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and if you have one, “a grabber” or an old walking stick or ski pole with a point that is handy to poke or pull trash out of bushes.

April Meeting Agenda

March 27th, 2013 · Agenda

Our next regular ECNA meeting is Thursday April 11, 7pm at the usual meeting room, 12800 Lomas Blvd, at the Foothills Command APD station. This will be a planning meeting for the Annual ECNA picnic and potluck event, to be held Saturday May 11 @ Embudo Hills Park (time TBD). The picnic has been moved up a month from the historic June date, which tends to fall on what is been a record high temperature for some strange reason. Also, more families should be in town as school is still in session as opposed to a June date. We need good participation from members and interested neighbors to come, provide input, creative ideas, and energy to make this event a fun, family event that you might actually look forward to each year. Please send a family member to this planning meeting which will be the primary focus for the meeting. No guest speaker will be scheduled so our one hour agenda will be our monthly reports which take just a few minutes of the meeting, the Foothills command report, and picnic planning, and an opportunity for neighbors to present any new business. You don’t have to be a member to attend the meeting (but you cannot vote on any organization matter unless you are a member). Family membership is only $10 payable at anytime and is good for a year. You can join at a meeting or print the membership form from this web-site. Hope to see some new faces at the April 11 meeting.

Response to info requested

Old Business:

The question was posed last month if anyone in ECNA was interested in planning a “Mayoral Candidate Forum” for this year’s election. The question was asked as to the “filing deadline.” The filing deadline is April 28th, 5pm.

7:30-8:00

New Business:

A committee was created in our January meeting to explore the possible design and interest in the creation of an “ECNA directory” of neighbors within our boundaries who own a local business so we may be aware of their services and consider using their services as the need arises. Also, mentioned was a possible listing of local residents offering services like babysitting services or other services. Tonight’s is the first discussion, led by the committee, to explore the interest and issues related to such a project.

The City announced April 27th, 9a-12p as the annual “Great American Clean-up”. If we want to participate, we must register by April 12 and designate trash pick-up locations. So, if we do participate, we must decide what area in our area(s) we want to work in this meeting.

Other new business?

Announcements & Upcoming Events

THUR, April 11: ECNA planning meeting, 7pm for the annual picnic/potluck in Embudo Hills park on Saturday, May 11 (moved a month earlier this year to try for cooler weather). We would like your help and idea to attract more families to participate in this event.

Crisis Intervention Speaker at ECNA Meeting this Thursday, 7 PM

February 11th, 2013 · Agenda

Dear Neighbors-

What is APD’s training and role when you are worried about a family member, friend, anyone you care about, who exhibits behaviors or behavioral changes that make you concerned for their safety and possibly the safety of others? How do our city resources and staff work to identify community members struggling with mental health issues or other types of crises, make assessments and network with community resources to assist the individual in obtaining the help and services they require?  The city crisis team strives to  prevent  a mentally ill person from hurting or killing others or getting hurt or killed themselves and uses interventions to prevent jailing an individual when appropriate earlier interventions can be made which would divert the need for custody, and much more.
